Start Here: Arrival, Cancellations & Pets

What time is check-in?
Check-in begins at 4:00 PM. We recommend arriving between 4:00 PM and 10:00 PM, especially if this is your first visit to Tarantula Ranch. Arriving during these hours gives us the best opportunity to assist you if you have trouble locating your accommodation or have questions when you arrive.

Can I arrive after 10:00 PM?
Yes. Tarantula Ranch offers self check-in, so you can arrive after 10:00 PM. However, staff may not be available to assist with late-night arrivals.

Guests arriving after 10:00 PM are responsible for following the provided check-in instructions, and refunds will not be issued for problems resulting from a late arrival when assistance is unavailable.

We strongly recommend reviewing your check-in instructions before beginning your drive to Tarantula Ranch.

Can I arrive early?
Guests who book directly with Tarantula Ranch may contact us to request an early arrival. We accommodate these requests when possible, depending on availability and our cleaning schedule.

Early arrival is not available for third-party reservations because of limitations in the insurance coverage provided by those platforms.

What time is check-out?
Check-out is 11:00 AM.

Guests who book directly may contact us to request a late check-out, subject to availability and our cleaning schedule.

Can I request a late check-out?
Yes, if you booked directly with Tarantula Ranch. Contact us before check-out and we'll accommodate the request when possible.

Late check-out is not available for third-party reservations because of limitations in the insurance coverage provided by those platforms.

Do I need to meet someone when I arrive?
No. Tarantula Ranch uses self check-in. You'll receive information explaining how to locate and access your accommodation.

We still recommend arriving between 4:00 PM and 10:00 PM when possible.

When will I receive my check-in instructions?
Check-in instructions are emailed within 24 hours of making your reservation.

If you haven't received them, please check your spam or junk folder. If you still can't find them, contact us before traveling to the ranch.

Are pets allowed?
Yes. Pets are welcome in most accommodations when booking directly with Tarantula Ranch.

Pets are not permitted with third-party reservations. The Bottling Room is always pet-free for guests with allergies or sensitivities.

Is there a pet fee?
Yes. The standard pet fee is generally $10–$20, depending on the accommodation and reservation.

Pets must be registered before arrival. A pet that arrives without being registered in advance is subject to a $50 unregistered-pet fee due upon arrival.

What are the rules for pets?
Pets must remain leashed at all times, and guests must pick up after them. Pets that disturb other guests may be required to leave the property.

Pets are strictly prohibited in The Bottling Room. If a pet enters The Bottling Room, a $250 cleaning fee will be assessed so we can restore the accommodation to its pet-free standard.

Cancellations & Reservation Changes

What is your cancellation policy?
For reservations made directly with Tarantula Ranch:

14 days or more before arrival: 100% refund
7–13 days before arrival: 50% refund
Less than 7 days before arrival: no refund

If you cancel less than seven days before arrival and we're able to rebook your accommodation, we may be able to refund the amount recovered through the replacement reservation.

Third-party reservations are subject to the cancellation policy associated with the platform and reservation through which they were booked.

Can I change my reservation dates?
If you booked directly, contact us as soon as possible. Date changes may be possible depending on availability and circumstances.

Reservations made through third-party platforms must follow the change procedures and policies associated with those reservations.

What if the weather is bad?
The Mojave Desert can experience rapidly changing weather. Normal or forecasted desert weather does not override our cancellation policy.

If unusual or extreme circumstances significantly affect your stay, contact us. Exceptional circumstances are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

What if roads in Death Valley National Park are closed?
Roads and attractions in Death Valley may occasionally close because of flooding, weather, construction or other conditions.

Tarantula Ranch is outside Death Valley National Park, so a park road or attraction closure does not automatically qualify a reservation for a refund. If significant closures substantially affect your trip, contact us and we'll review the circumstances.

What if my flight is canceled or my travel plans change?
Flight cancellations, rental car problems and other changes to travel plans are generally subject to our normal cancellation policy.

If you booked directly, contact us as soon as possible. Depending on the circumstances and availability, we may have options available.

About Tarantula Ranch

What is Tarantula Ranch?
Tarantula Ranch is a small, family-owned desert campground, glamping property and working vineyard in Amargosa Valley, Nevada.

Our 8-acre property is surrounded by public land and open desert and provides a unique base for exploring Death Valley, Ash Meadows and the surrounding Mojave Desert.

Is Tarantula Ranch a hotel?
No. Tarantula Ranch is a rural desert campground, glamping property and vineyard rather than a conventional hotel.

Guests should expect gravel and natural terrain, changing desert weather, occasional insects, shared spaces and the rare possibility of encountering desert wildlife.

That's part of the experience. Tarantula Ranch is intended to be part of your Death Valley adventure, not simply somewhere to sleep between days in the park.

What makes Tarantula Ranch different from a hotel near Death Valley?
We're a small, family-owned property with a working vineyard, unusual accommodations, The Wine Hall, outdoor cooking facilities, spectacular sunsets and exceptionally dark night skies.

You can spend the day exploring Death Valley and return to a quiet desert property where you can cook outside, walk through the vineyard, relax under the stars or simply enjoy the silence.

Location & Getting Here

Where is Tarantula Ranch located?
Tarantula Ranch is located in Amargosa Valley, Nevada, near Death Valley National Park.

We're approximately 90 miles northwest of Las Vegas and provide a convenient base for exploring Death Valley, Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge and the surrounding desert.

Is Tarantula Ranch inside Death Valley National Park?
No. We're located outside the park in Amargosa Valley.

How far is Tarantula Ranch from Death Valley?
Death Valley Junction is approximately 20 minutes from Tarantula Ranch.

Death Valley is enormous, so driving times depend on where you're going. Furnace Creek is approximately 45 minutes away.

How far is Furnace Creek?
Furnace Creek is approximately 45 minutes away by car.

How far is Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge?
Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge is just a short drive from Tarantula Ranch.

The refuge protects an extraordinary collection of desert springs, wetlands, wildlife and plants, including species found nowhere else on Earth. It's one of our favorite nearby places to explore.

How far is Tarantula Ranch from Las Vegas?
Approximately 90 minutes by car under normal driving conditions.

Do I need four-wheel drive to reach Tarantula Ranch?
No. A standard passenger car is sufficient under normal conditions.

Is the road to Tarantula Ranch paved?
Most of the drive is paved. Approximately the final half-mile is on a maintained gravel road.

Drive slowly, particularly after dark.

Can I reach Tarantula Ranch in a rental car?
Yes. A standard rental car is sufficient under normal conditions.

If you plan to explore unpaved or backcountry roads elsewhere in the desert, check your rental agreement and road requirements first.

Can motorcycles reach Tarantula Ranch?
Yes. Motorcycles can reach Tarantula Ranch.

The final portion of the drive includes approximately half a mile of maintained gravel road, so riders should slow down and use appropriate caution.

Can you accommodate oversized vehicles or trailers?
Generally, yes. We have room to accommodate many larger vehicles.

If you're traveling with an oversized RV, trailer or other large vehicle, contact us before booking so we can make sure we have an appropriate place for you.

Can I use Uber or Lyft to reach Tarantula Ranch?
Do not rely on rideshare services. Uber and Lyft availability in our rural area is extremely limited.

Is there public transportation?
There is no regular public transportation that guests should rely upon for getting to and from Tarantula Ranch. Having your own vehicle or rental car is strongly recommended.

Can I arrive after dark?
Yes. We offer self check-in.

However, arriving between 4:00 PM and 10:00 PM is much easier, particularly on your first visit. If arriving after 10:00 PM, make sure you've reviewed your check-in instructions because staff assistance may not be available.

Accommodations & Amenities

What types of accommodations do you offer?
Tarantula Ranch offers a variety of glamping trailers and unique campers, a private Guest House, tent and vehicle camping, and an RV site.

Amenities vary between individual accommodations, so check your specific listing when booking.

What is the difference between camping and glamping?
Camping means bringing your own sleeping and camping setup.

Our glamping accommodations are ready for your arrival with a real bed, bedding, electricity and additional amenities that vary by accommodation.

Do I need to bring bedding for a glamping stay?
No. Bedding and pillows are provided in our glamping accommodations and Guest House.

Camping and RV guests should bring everything needed for their own sleeping setup.

Are towels provided?
Towels are provided for guests staying in our glamping accommodations and Guest House.

Camping and RV guests should bring their own towels.

Do the glamping accommodations have air conditioning and heat?
Yes. Our glamping accommodations have air conditioning and heat.

Keep in mind that these are compact spaces, so heating and cooling equipment may be more noticeable than the central HVAC system in a conventional hotel.

Will my air conditioner already be running when I arrive?
Not necessarily. Air conditioning is not always left running between guests, so your accommodation may be warm when you first arrive during hot weather.

Once you turn on the air conditioner, please allow time for the accommodation to cool, particularly during periods of extreme desert heat.

Do the glamping accommodations have toilets?
Most do. Three of our smaller campers do not have their own toilets and use the shared restroom facilities.

Check the individual accommodation listing for details.

Do the glamping accommodations have private showers?
Many do.

We also have a larger shower facility available to all guests. Although the facility is shared among guests, the shower itself is completely private while in use and has a locking door.

Many guests prefer it because it offers considerably more room than the compact showers inside some glamping trailers.

Are shared bathrooms and showers available?
Yes. Shared restroom and shower facilities are available to guests.

Our larger shared shower is completely private while you are using it and has a locking door.

What toiletries are provided?
Shampoo, conditioner and body wash are provided for guest use.

Do you provide hair dryers?
A hair dryer is provided in The Bottling Room.

Hair dryers are not provided in our other accommodations or shared facilities, so guests staying elsewhere should bring their own if needed.

Do the glamping accommodations have kitchens or refrigerators?
Amenities vary between accommodations, so check the individual listing.

All guests have access to our shared outdoor kitchen and may store food in the refrigerator in The Wine Hall.

Does my accommodation have a coffee maker?
Every glamping accommodation and the Guest House has its own Keurig.

There is also a Keurig available in The Wine Hall.

Is drinking water available?
Yes. Tarantula Ranch is served by a private well, and reverse-osmosis filtered drinking water is available to guests.

We strongly recommend filling your water containers before heading into Death Valley or other remote desert areas.

Do you have Wi-Fi?
Yes. Wi-Fi is available at Tarantula Ranch.

We're in a rural desert location, so occasional interruptions are possible.

How is cell phone service?
Cell service varies by carrier and location. Wi-Fi is available at the ranch, but cellular service can be limited or nonexistent in remote portions of Death Valley and the surrounding desert.

Is laundry available?
Laundry is available to guests with reservations of seven nights or longer.

Guest laundry is not available for shorter stays.

Do you have EV charging?
Complimentary Level 2 EV charging is available at Site 1. If dedicated EV charging is important for your stay, book Site 1.

The RV site's 30-amp electrical service may also be used for EV charging if you bring compatible equipment.

Otherwise, we do not have dedicated EV charging available throughout the property.

The Wine Hall & Shared Spaces

What is The Wine Hall?
The Wine Hall is our main communal gathering space and is available for guests to enjoy.

It includes a refrigerator, microwave and Keurig, along with ping-pong and shuffleboard.

The Wine Hall is not fully climate-controlled. Small heaters are positioned over the tables during winter, but otherwise guests should expect temperatures similar to the surrounding desert.

Can I store food in The Wine Hall refrigerator?
Yes. Guests are welcome to store food and drinks in the refrigerator in The Wine Hall.

Because the refrigerator is shared, please keep your belongings together and identifiable.

Is there somewhere to eat indoors?
The Wine Hall has tables where guests can eat and gather.

It is a communal space rather than a climate-controlled dining room. Small heaters are located over the tables during winter, but The Wine Hall otherwise is not heated or air-conditioned.

What spaces are shared with other guests?
Depending on your accommodation, shared spaces may include The Wine Hall, outdoor kitchen, restrooms, our larger private-use shower and other communal areas around the property.

Your individual glamping accommodation or Guest House is private.

Tent Camping & RVs

Do you offer tent camping?
Yes. Tarantula Ranch has designated campsites for tent camping.

Camping guests have access to shared amenities including restrooms, our private-use hot shower, outdoor kitchen, Wi-Fi and The Wine Hall.

Can I sleep in my car or van?
Yes. Our campsites can accommodate cars, vans and other self-contained camping vehicles, depending on vehicle size.

Do tent campsites have electricity?
No. Tent campsites do not have electrical hookups.

Water is available nearby on the property.

Do you accommodate RVs and travel trailers?
Yes. Tarantula Ranch has a dedicated RV site.

What hookups are available at the RV site?
Our RV site has 30-amp electrical service and a water hookup.

There is no sewer or septic hookup at the site, so RV guests should plan accordingly.

Are generators allowed?
No. Generators are not permitted at Tarantula Ranch.

Are picnic tables provided?
Yes. Our camping and RV sites have picnic tables.

Glamping accommodations have their own outdoor tables and chairs.

Food, Cooking & Supplies

Is there a kitchen guests can use?
Yes. Tarantula Ranch has a shared outdoor kitchen available to guests.

The kitchen includes cooking facilities, a gas grill, cookware, dishes, utensils, a sink and basic cooking supplies.

Can I bring my own grill?
Yes. Guests are welcome to bring their own grills and camp cooking equipment, subject to any fire restrictions in effect.

Our shared outdoor kitchen has a gas grill, and some glamping accommodations also have their own gas grills.

Should I bring groceries?
Yes, particularly if you plan to prepare several meals or need specific ingredients.

Amargosa Valley has two small local markets, Ruby's Store and Martell Market, where you'll find groceries, drinks and basic supplies. Selection is limited compared with a full-size supermarket, so we recommend doing your main shopping in Las Vegas or Pahrump.

Are there restaurants nearby?
Yes, although dining options in Amargosa Valley are limited.

Popular nearby choices include El Valle, Longstreet Casino, Ruby's Store and the restaurant inside The Fort gas station.

Restaurant days and hours can change, so check current hours before relying on a particular restaurant for a meal.

Do you sell ice?
No. We do not sell ice at Tarantula Ranch.

Ice and basic supplies can be purchased locally. If you need a significant amount of ice, we recommend buying it before arriving.

Do you have a camp store?
We don't operate a traditional camp store or sell general camping supplies or groceries.

We do have Tarantula Ranch T-shirts available for purchase.

Do you sell firewood?
Yes, when campfire season is open. We normally have firewood available for purchase, although we occasionally run out.

Campfires, Quiet Hours & Ranch Rules

Can I have a campfire?
Yes, when local fire restrictions allow.

Nye County commonly imposes seasonal fire restrictions during the hot, dry months, typically sometime between June and October. When restrictions are in effect, wood-burning campfires are not permitted.

Fire restrictions depend on current conditions, so don't assume a campfire will be possible during your stay.

What are quiet hours?
Quiet hours are 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM.

You're welcome to sit outside and enjoy the night sky during quiet hours, but please keep conversations and other noise low enough that neighboring guests aren't disturbed.

Is music allowed?
No. Music is not permitted at Tarantula Ranch at any time, including music played through speakers, phones, vehicles or other devices.

One of the special things about staying here is experiencing the natural quiet of the desert.

Is smoking allowed?
No. Tarantula Ranch is a non-smoking property. Smoking and vaping are not permitted anywhere on the property.

Can I walk around the property and vineyard?
Yes. Guests are welcome to explore and enjoy the ranch and vineyard.

Please respect private and work areas and remember that parts of Tarantula Ranch are actively used for farming and winemaking.

Can I pick grapes?
Please don't pick grapes, fruit or other plants without permission. Our grapes are grown for winemaking.

Can I fly a drone?
Only with advance approval. Guests may not launch or operate drones from Tarantula Ranch without permission.

Can I take photographs?
Absolutely. Personal photography is welcome.

Commercial or professional photography and filming require advance approval.

Can I have visitors at the ranch?
Only with advance approval.

Unregistered guests are not permitted on the property unless arrangements have been approved ahead of time.

Can we have a party or gathering?
Not as part of a regular lodging reservation without advance approval.

If you're planning an event or organized gathering, contact us before making reservations. Events will generally require a full-property rental.

Desert Weather & What to Bring

Is Tarantula Ranch open year-round?
Yes. Tarantula Ranch is open year-round.

Spring and fall generally bring mild conditions, winter can bring cool days and cold nights, and summer brings the extraordinary heat of the Mojave Desert.

How hot does it get?
Summers are very hot. Daytime temperatures can exceed 100°F (38°C) and occasionally climb considerably higher.

Drink plenty of water, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day and plan summer activities carefully.

Is Tarantula Ranch cooler than Death Valley?
Generally, yes. Tarantula Ranch is outside the lowest elevations of Death Valley and is often somewhat cooler than Furnace Creek.

However, Amargosa Valley is still the Mojave Desert and can become extremely hot.

Does it get cold at night?
Yes. Desert temperatures can change dramatically between day and night.

Winter nighttime temperatures can fall below freezing. Spring and fall evenings can also be surprisingly cool, so check the forecast and bring layers.

Is it windy?
It can be. Strong winds are a normal part of desert weather.

Tent campers should bring equipment appropriate for windy conditions and securely anchor tents and belongings.

What should I bring?
We recommend plenty of water for excursions, sun protection, sturdy shoes, a flashlight or headlamp, and clothing appropriate for significant changes in temperature.

Camping and RV guests should bring their own towels and camping equipment. Glamping and Guest House guests have bedding and towels provided.

If you plan to cook, bringing groceries before arrival is recommended.

What should I wear?
Dress for the season and remember that desert temperatures can change quickly.

Sun protection is important year-round. Comfortable clothing, sturdy footwear, sunglasses and sunscreen are useful during the day, with layers for cooler evenings.

Can I stay during the summer?
Yes. Tarantula Ranch welcomes guests throughout the summer, and our glamping accommodations and Guest House have air conditioning.

Summer visitors should take the extreme heat seriously, particularly when visiting Death Valley.

Tarantulas, Tortoises & Desert Wildlife

Are there really tarantulas at Tarantula Ranch?
Yes—but seeing one is actually pretty rare.

Tarantulas live naturally in the Mojave Desert, and we occasionally see one on the property. Despite our name, most guests will never encounter a tarantula during their stay.

If you're lucky enough to see one, give it some space and enjoy the sighting without touching or relocating it.

Are there snakes or rattlesnakes?
Snakes, including rattlesnakes, live in the Mojave Desert, but seeing one at Tarantula Ranch is rare.

Watch where you step, particularly after dark, and never attempt to touch, catch or move a snake.

Are there coyotes?
Coyotes live throughout the surrounding desert, but close encounters at the ranch are uncommon.

Pets should remain leashed and should never be allowed to wander unattended.

Are there scorpions?
Scorpions are native to the Mojave Desert, although guest encounters are uncommon.

Avoid reaching blindly under rocks or into places where desert wildlife may be hiding.

Are there bugs or flies?
Yes. Tarantula Ranch is a working property in a rural desert environment, so insects are occasionally part of the experience.

Depending on the season, weather and recent rainfall, you may encounter flies, moths, beetles or other desert insects. Numbers can vary considerably from one day or season to another.

We work to keep accommodations clean, but an occasional insect can find its way indoors, just as it can at any rural desert property.

Does Tarantula Ranch have desert tortoises?
Yes! Desert tortoises live at Tarantula Ranch and are some of our favorite residents.

Their activity varies with the seasons and weather, so you may not see them during every visit.

Can I touch or feed the tortoises?

Please don't feed, pick up or handle the tortoises.

What should I do if I encounter wildlife?
Give wildlife plenty of space and don't touch, feed, catch or relocate it.

If you encounter an animal that concerns you near your accommodation, contact us.

Vineyard & Wine

Is Tarantula Ranch a working vineyard?
Yes. Tarantula Ranch has a small working vineyard, and growing grapes and making wine are an active part of life here.

Depending on the season, you may see pruning, irrigation, ripening grapes, harvest or winemaking activities.

What grape varieties do you grow?
We grow Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot and Zinfandel.

When is grape harvest?
Harvest is typically during July and August, although exact timing varies depending on the grape variety and growing conditions.

Can guests walk through the vineyard?
Yes. Guests are welcome to look around and enjoy the vineyard.

Please remember that it's an actively farmed area. Don't pick grapes or other plants without permission, and be mindful of irrigation lines and farming equipment.

Do you make wine at Tarantula Ranch?
Yes. We make wine from grapes grown at Tarantula Ranch as well as grapes grown locally in Amargosa Valley.

Can I buy Tarantula Ranch wine?
Not yet—but we're getting close.

We're in the final stages of obtaining our wine licensing and expect to begin selling Tarantula Ranch wines in 2027.

Until our licensing is complete, wine is not available for purchase.

Do you offer wine tastings?
Not currently. We're completing the final stages of our wine licensing and expect our wine program to expand in 2027.

We'll update our website with information about wine sales, tastings and other wine experiences as they become available.

Stargazing & Night Skies

Is Tarantula Ranch good for stargazing?
Absolutely. Tarantula Ranch has some of the darkest skies you'll find at a private campground in the United States.

Our remote location in Amargosa Valley, far from major cities and significant light pollution, creates exceptional conditions for viewing the night sky. Tarantula Ranch has been recognized by Sunset Magazine for its incredible night-sky camping experience.

Can I see the Milky Way?
Yes, when conditions are right.

The Milky Way can be spectacular from Tarantula Ranch, particularly on clear, moonless nights. Visibility varies with the season, moon phase, clouds, dust and weather.

When is the best time for stargazing?
Generally, the darkest skies occur around the new moon.

A bright full moon reduces the number of visible stars, although experiencing the desert under a full moon can be beautiful in its own way.

Do I need to drive somewhere to see the stars?
No. You can stargaze directly from Tarantula Ranch.

You can spend the evening under the stars and simply walk back to your accommodation when you're ready for bed.

Can I bring a telescope?
Yes. Guests are welcome to bring telescopes, binoculars and astrophotography equipment.

Please set up equipment where it won't block roads, walkways or access to other accommodations.

Can guests use the Tarantula Ranch telescope?
No. Our telescope is not available for guest use.

Guests who would like to use a telescope during their stay should bring their own.

Do you offer stargazing events?
Yes. Tarantula Ranch regularly offers stargazing events that take advantage of our exceptionally dark desert skies.

Events vary throughout the year and may depend on moon phases, weather and availability, so check our website or contact us to see what may be offered during your stay.

You don't need to attend an event to enjoy the night sky. Overnight guests are welcome to stargaze independently from the property.

Should I bring a flashlight?
Yes. We strongly recommend bringing a flashlight or headlamp because the property is intentionally dark at night.

A red-light setting is especially useful for stargazing because it preserves night vision and is less disruptive to other guests.

Can I sit outside and stargaze after 10:00 PM?
Yes. You're welcome to quietly enjoy the night sky after quiet hours begin.

Quiet hours are 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM, so please avoid disturbing neighboring guests.

Exploring Death Valley & the Area

Is Tarantula Ranch a good base for visiting Death Valley?
Yes. Our location in Amargosa Valley provides convenient access to Death Valley while allowing guests to return each evening to showers, Wi-Fi, cooking facilities and a comfortable place to stay.

Can I visit Death Valley as a day trip?
Absolutely. Many guests spend the day exploring Death Valley and return to Tarantula Ranch in the evening.

Remember that Death Valley is enormous. Driving distances inside the park can be much greater than they appear on a map.

Do I have to pay to enter Death Valley National Park?
Yes. Death Valley National Park charges an entrance fee unless you have a qualifying National Parks pass.

Check current National Park Service information before your visit because fees can change.

Can I visit Death Valley during summer?
Yes, but summer heat in Death Valley can be extreme and potentially dangerous.

Carry abundant water, keep your vehicle fueled, avoid strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day and plan conservatively.

Is there cell service in Death Valley?
Cell service is very limited or nonexistent in many areas.

Don't depend on your phone having service while exploring the park or surrounding desert.

Should I download offline maps?
Yes. This is one of our strongest recommendations.

Download maps, directions and information while you have Wi-Fi. GPS applications can occasionally suggest inappropriate or extremely remote desert roads, so don't blindly follow suggested shortcuts.

Are Death Valley roads suitable for a regular rental car?
Many primary roads and popular destinations are accessible by normal passenger vehicles under good conditions.

However, Death Valley also has rough, unpaved and remote roads that may require high clearance or four-wheel drive.

Check current road conditions and your rental agreement before traveling on unpaved or backcountry roads.

What should I do if my GPS sends me down an unpaved road?
If a road looks inappropriate for your vehicle, don't continue simply because your GPS tells you to.

RO-filtered drinking water is available at Tarantula Ranch, so fill your containers before leaving.

Should I fill my gas tank before exploring?
Yes. Don't enter remote desert areas with a nearly empty fuel tank.

Fuel is available in Amargosa Valley, and we recommend starting your day with plenty of fuel.

Can Tarantula Ranch help me plan what to see?
Yes. We're happy to share local knowledge and suggestions based on your interests, available time and current conditions.

We live here and can often help guests understand realistic driving times, road conditions and what makes sense to visit during the time you have available.

Reservations, Payments & Booking Direct

What is the best way to book Tarantula Ranch?
Booking directly through our website is the best way to reserve your stay.

Direct reservations give us the greatest flexibility to assist with reservation changes and special requests and provide options that may not be available through third-party platforms.

Why should I book directly?
Direct reservations have no cleaning fees and give us greater flexibility to accommodate requests such as early arrival, late checkout and reservation changes when availability and circumstances allow.

Pets are also only permitted with direct reservations.

Do you charge a cleaning fee?
Not when you book directly. Tarantula Ranch does not charge a cleaning fee on direct reservations.

Fees associated with third-party reservations may be different.

I found Tarantula Ranch on another booking website. Can I still book direct?
Absolutely. If you haven't already completed a reservation elsewhere, you're welcome to book directly through our website.

If you've already made a third-party reservation, that reservation remains subject to the terms and policies associated with that platform.

Are policies different for third-party reservations?
Yes. Some policies and options differ.

Pets, early arrival and late checkout are only available with direct reservations. Third-party reservations are also subject to the cancellation, payment and other terms associated with the platform through which they were booked.

Can I make a same-day reservation?
Yes. Same-day reservations can be made until 8:00 PM, subject to availability.

How do I pay for my reservation?
Direct reservations are paid online by credit or debit card.

The complete reservation amount is charged when you book.

Do you require a security deposit?
No. We don't require a separate security deposit for regular reservations.

Guests remain responsible for applicable charges resulting from damage or violations of reservation policies.

Can I pay cash for my reservation?
Reservations are paid online by card.

For purchases at Tarantula Ranch, such as firewood, T-shirts and other items, we can accept cards, cash, Venmo or PayPal.

Can I reserve multiple accommodations?
Yes. Families and groups traveling together may reserve multiple accommodations, subject to availability.

If you're planning an organized gathering or event rather than simply traveling together, contact us before booking.

Is there a minimum stay?
Minimum-night requirements may apply during holidays and busier times of year.

Do you offer extended stays, weekly stays or long-term RV camping?
Yes. We welcome inquiries from guests looking for extended stays, weekly or monthly accommodations, and long-term RV sites near Death Valley and Amargosa Valley.

We occasionally hold accommodations or RV availability specifically for longer-term guests, so a date that doesn't appear available on our regular online calendar may still be worth asking about.

Longer Stays & Housekeeping

Is there daily housekeeping?
No. Your accommodation is cleaned and prepared before arrival, but daily housekeeping is not provided.

For longer stays, we're happy to schedule a room refresh.

What should I do with my trash?
Trash cans are located throughout the property, and there is a dumpster at the campground.

Please dispose of trash properly and don't leave food or garbage outside where it could attract wildlife.

What if I run out of toilet paper or another basic supply?
If something provided with your accommodation runs out during your stay, contact us and we'll be happy to help.

What if something isn't working in my accommodation?
Please let us know as soon as you notice a problem.

Many issues can be resolved quickly if we know about them while you're still here. Please give us an opportunity to address a problem rather than waiting until after checkout.

Is someone available 24 hours a day?
No. Tarantula Ranch does not operate like a hotel with a 24-hour front desk.

We use self check-in and are available to assist guests, but someone may not always be immediately available on-site.

What should I do in an emergency?
For a life-threatening emergency, fire or other immediate danger, call 911.

For property or accommodation issues that aren't emergencies, contact Tarantula Ranch directly.

What if I leave something behind?
Contact us as soon as possible. We'll make a reasonable effort to locate lost items, although we can't guarantee an item will be found.

Guests are responsible for applicable shipping and handling costs if they'd like an item returned.

What if I accidentally damage something?
Please tell us as soon as possible. Letting us know promptly gives us the best opportunity to address the problem before the next guest arrives.

Guests may be responsible for significant damage beyond normal wear and tear.

Do I need to clean before checking out?
We don't expect you to clean the accommodation before leaving.

Please gather your belongings, dispose of your trash, and turn off the lights, heat and air conditioning before departure.

Children, Accessibility & Special Needs

Are children welcome?
Yes. Families with children are welcome at Tarantula Ranch.

Parents and guardians are responsible for supervising their children. This is a working property in a natural desert environment with wildlife, farm equipment, gravel and uneven terrain.

Younger children should have a parent or guardian nearby while exploring the property.

Is Tarantula Ranch wheelchair accessible?
Tarantula Ranch is a rural desert property with gravel roads, natural terrain and accommodations with different layouts and access requirements. Not all areas or accommodations are wheelchair accessible.

If you have mobility or accessibility needs, please contact us before booking. We're happy to explain individual accommodations so you can determine whether the property will work for you.

Do the glamping accommodations have steps?
Many require one or more steps to enter.

If stairs, doorway width, bathroom configuration or another physical feature is important, contact us before booking.

Can I park next to my accommodation?
Many of our accommodations are walk-in sites. Your vehicle will generally be parked nearby, but you may not be able to park immediately adjacent to your accommodation.

If walking distance, carrying luggage or vehicle access is a concern, contact us before booking and we'll explain the arrangement for the accommodations you're considering.

What if I have allergies?
The Bottling Room is maintained as a pet-free accommodation for guests with allergies or sensitivities to animals.

Pets are strictly prohibited in The Bottling Room.

Please remember that Tarantula Ranch is a rural desert property, so pet-free does not mean completely allergen-free. Dust, pollen and other naturally occurring allergens may be present.

What about service animals?
Guests traveling with a service animal should contact us if they have questions about the property or suitability of a particular accommodation.

Service animals are handled in accordance with applicable law and are not treated as ordinary pets under our pet policy.

Groups, Events & Private Rentals

Can groups stay at Tarantula Ranch?
Yes. Groups are welcome.

For a normal group trip where everyone is simply staying as overnight guests, you may reserve multiple accommodations and campsites, subject to availability.

If you're planning an organized event, gathering or celebration, contact us before making individual reservations.

Can I host an event or gathering at Tarantula Ranch?
Yes, with advance arrangements.

Events and organized gatherings will generally require reserving the entire property. This provides your group with privacy while ensuring that an event doesn't interfere with other overnight guests.

Can I host a wedding at Tarantula Ranch?
Yes. Tarantula Ranch can host intimate weddings and private celebrations, generally as a full-property rental.

Our desert setting, vineyard and dark night skies provide a unique setting for smaller destination weddings.

Can we host a birthday, anniversary or other celebration?
Yes, with advance approval.

Depending on the size and nature of the gathering, a full-property rental will generally be required.

Can people attend our event without staying overnight?
Only as part of an approved event or private-property rental.

For regular lodging reservations, unregistered visitors aren't permitted without advance approval.

Can we rent the entire Tarantula Ranch?
Yes. Full-property rentals may be available for private groups and events.

Do you host retreats and organized groups?
Yes. We're happy to discuss small retreats, astronomy groups, photography groups, family gatherings and other organized group stays.

Depending on the size and activities planned, reserving the entire property may be required.

Can we have professional photography or filming?
Yes, with advance approval.

Professional or commercial photography, video production and filming must be arranged with us in advance.

International Visitors

Do you welcome international guests?
Absolutely. We regularly welcome guests from around the United States and the world.

International visitors and first-time desert travelers should read our arrival information before traveling to the ranch because staying in a remote desert environment can be quite different from staying in a city hotel.

What is the easiest airport for reaching Tarantula Ranch?
For most visitors, Las Vegas is the easiest airport.

Tarantula Ranch is approximately a 90-minute drive from Las Vegas, and we strongly recommend renting a car.

Will my international mobile phone work?
That depends on your carrier and roaming plan.

Cellular service can be limited throughout the surrounding desert, although Wi-Fi is available at Tarantula Ranch.

What electrical outlets do you use?
The United States uses Type A and Type B electrical outlets with approximately 120-volt, 60 Hz power.

International visitors may need a plug adapter. Check that your electronics also support U.S. voltage.

Do I need to understand Fahrenheit?
You don't, but knowing a few temperatures can be useful in the desert:

What side of the road do Americans drive on?
The right-hand side.

Visitors accustomed to driving on the left should give themselves extra time to become comfortable with their rental vehicle.

Are distances shown in miles or kilometers?
U.S. road signs use miles and miles per hour.

As a rough conversion, one mile is about 1.6 kilometers.

Planning Your Stay

What can I do at Tarantula Ranch besides visit Death Valley?
Quite a bit, and we encourage guests to leave some time to simply enjoy the ranch.

Tarantula Ranch sits on 8 acres surrounded by public land and open desert. Guests can enjoy the vineyard, our exceptionally dark night skies, The Wine Hall, ping-pong and shuffleboard, outdoor cooking, photography and the peace and quiet of the Mojave Desert.

We regularly offer stargazing events, and nearby Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge makes an excellent addition to a Death Valley trip.

How many nights should I stay?
Most guests stay 2–3 nights.

That provides time to explore Death Valley while still enjoying Tarantula Ranch and the surrounding area. If you'd like to visit Ash Meadows, spend multiple days exploring Death Valley, attend a stargazing event or simply have some downtime in the desert, consider staying longer.

We also welcome inquiries about weekly, monthly and other extended stays.

What's the most important thing to know before staying at Tarantula Ranch?
Come expecting the desert.

Tarantula Ranch isn't designed to separate you from the Mojave Desert—we want you to experience it. That means extraordinary night skies, silence, sunsets, a working vineyard and wide-open surroundings, but also gravel, wind, dramatic temperature changes, occasional insects and the rare appearance of desert wildlife.

Read your arrival instructions, bring what you need for the season, give yourself time to enjoy the property, and don't try to pack every minute of your trip with driving.
